Some of you were there a few days ago when I started having connection issues, I'm like five or six days in now. My usual sub-70 ping has skyrocketed to around 1200 on Tempest/Impulse and every other server, for every other game I have installed. My internet seems to be running at a normal speed, I seem to download files roughly at the same speed I always do - I can stream things fine, etc. I've tried everything to fix the problem short of buying a new modem & router. I've googled all over, and I can't find anything that sounds like the problem I have. I've checked every computer on my network to make sure it wasn't torrenting anything.
Occasionally my ping returns to it's normal sub-70 state, and will stay that way for anywhere from five minutes to an hour. Eventually it spikes back to 1200 and stays there for a while though.
Speedtest when spiking:
ping: 1219ms
Download speed: 1.59mbps
Upload speed: 0.11mbps
(I'll post up what it usually looks like as soon as it randomly de-spikes and I can run a speed test..)
So, yeah.. any solutions would be great.

I would start by turning off all the other machines on the network, if possible.
One of the other computers could have a bug that's hogging bandwidth.

Update the firmware of your router.Magyk wrote:Some of you were there a few days ago when I started having connection issues, I'm like five or six days in now. It does also sound potentially like someone else in your household is intiating a download every now and then and you are competing for bandwidth, like Archi said. If it never happened before then I'd still resort to step one and check your router is upgraded to the latest firmware.

I don't know your skill level so i will point out the first obvious thing.... Reset your network. Could be what arch and guard said. Also could be a bad modem or router. Could be a virus.
Re: Ping Suddenly & Permanently Spiking.
I've tried resetting my modem and router several times. Earlier today, I tried plugging a hard wire into my laptop to see how it would work. Everything seemed to run normally, as it should. Set my wireless back up, and everything has been fine since.. of course, I've already though the problem was fixed a few times before, only to have my connection drop out from under me after an hour or so.

Are you torrenting anything? Comcast throttles me after about 15 seconds of having an upload greater than 40 KB/s on torrents specifically (I can upload considerably faster in a direct upload, for example). It's kind of weird.
Hi. I'm angry on the internet.
Re: Ping Suddenly & Permanently Spiking.
Nope, not torrenting.
The last few hours have been smooth sailing.
55ms ping
14.62mbps download speed
0.49mbps upload speed
