1. Gustav Mahler
2. Yanni
3. John Powell (X-men: The Last Stand)
4. Harry Gregson-Williams (Chronicles of Narnia)
5. John Williams
6. Hans Zimmer
7. John Tesh (Live at Red Rocks)
8. Nightwish
9. Within Temptation
10. The Scorpions (Moment of Glory)

actually surprised at how decisively I was able to rank those

Nightwish used to be my #1 staple, now it's just an occasional thing.

Harry-Gregson Williams amazing. Really. The Metal Gear Solid scores by him are amazing. So are his movie scores, The Rock, Narnia.

You should listen to Klaus Badelt, he did the score for Pirates of the Caribbean (Black Pearl).

yea potc1 was good, but hans zimmer stole his thunder thereafter. Plus, potc3 was amazing even compared to potc1. But potc 2 was utter crap.

Ahh really?

I think just the opposite; I liked the potc1 soundtrack the best, and I thought Zimmer wasn't very creative with the soundtracks afterward and just used mostly Badelt's score.

I also thought 1&2 were fantastic, followed by the biggest movie letdown ever (Aside from Rocky V) ; Pirates 3.
Potc3 just had too many things that annoyed me, like bringing back Norrington only to give him a lame-ass death, while the British Captain at the end gets this epic 60 second slow-mo death sequence. If anything, Barbossa should have been the Pirate leader. How the pirates traded Jack, who had done nothing all movie but help them, for Will even though he was a traitor. The absurdity of voodoo woman being a god, who really ends up doing absolutely nothing in the end just creating a whirlpool. How the second-in-command at the end of the movie CANT give the order to "fire" but he CAN give the order to "abandon ship." And of course, the 1,000+ ship British armada doesn't even attempt to fight the 3 ship pirate fleet? There was a whole mess of other stuff too, but I won't list it :P

yea, seems you'd fit right in with my brother... he always overanalyzes movies instead of just enjoying them =|

Zimmer actually brought in distinctive new themes in the second and third, ones that didn't seem to be ripped off from the first one. Obviously the ones in the second were meh, but the third one had quite a few new and nice themes.

Mhh, I like the Kraken theme from the second one, which was all him. Never really listen to the third one, I only saw it once because I was so disappointed. :(
