I think about getting the preorder, but I never played a FF and im not shure about the combat system, I allways liked the regular kind where you manage combat through a bar with skills, or just fightning through direct attack control...
What do you guys think about this game, the gameplay videos I've seen made it seem pretty slow.
Still the envyroment and characters seem pretty well done.
I played KOTOR and there the combat system seemed o.k..
Release is somwhere from middle to late september 2010, depending on wich preorder u purchase.

I've played 1,2,4,5, and 6, and the combat system pretty much remained the same with the newer ones as I saw. Agreed, the action is a bit slow, but it goes roughly turn-based, based on each character's speed stat (faster chars get to attack more times per 'turn'). It's kinda like KOTOR that way. I personally like it.

Re: Final Fantasy XIV
Well KOTOR wasn't really a speed stat (unless using a speed power). It also had to do with your base attack bonus, every multiple of 5 earned you an additional attack at a -5 penalty, all the way down to >= 0. Pretty common in RPGs of course (for exammple, +6/+1, +11/+6/+1, etc)

Re: Final Fantasy XIV
I've played VII, X, XII, and I'm in the middle of XIII. If you've never played any of them, I highly recommend buying a copy of FFX for 5 bucks or whatever it's worth now.
However, I'll be completely honest, I hate the combat system in all of them (X has had the most tolerable one.) and I only play them for the story.
I won't be buying this one just because it's primarily based around online play, and I doubt it will have as compelling a story as the single player games.

If FF games were books, the world would be a much better place.

FFs played: VII, VIII, IX, X, XIII
I suppose this doesn't look too bad but I'm not sure that i'm quite ready to play any MMORPG again so soon. It has only been 3 years since I last played one.
